Position Details Ongoing Positions Help create databases of spoken language material by collecting and auditing speech recordings. You will make multiple telephone calls to people you know, using your native language; listen to short recordings to determine what language they're in; and help LDC project staff with record keeping and documentation. Current target languages include Polish, Ukranian, Russian, Lao, Dari, Pashto, Tamil, Turkish, Czech, Spanish, Farsi, Mandarin, Slovak. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: •

Annotation Group is seeking an energetic, capable, super-organized team
player to assist the Associate Director with various project-related
tasks. Your primary duties will include creating and maintaining
project publications, analyzing project expenses and progress,
performing web-based research, and planning for special
events. This position requires facility with Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, PowerPoint); basic knowledge of HTML; strong writing skills; good attention to detail; reliability; and the ability to work independently and to take initiative. Computing and/or design background and interest in languages is a plus. 10-20 hours/week; $11+/hour; flexible weekday schedule. support automatic speech recognition, machine translation, information
retrieval and related technologies. Responsiblities may include
transcription of news broadcasts, business meetings or talk shows;
labeling of spoken language phenomena like disfluencies, speech errors,
syntactic structure and prosody; and labeling of entities, relations
and events in news texts or video feeds. This position requires speaking/listening, reading and writing fluency in English, Modern Standard Arabic or Mandarin Chinese (simplified Chinese), excellent English reading and writing skills, strong attention to detail, basic computer proficiency, and willingness to learn new skills. Transcription positions require excellent typing skills. Interest in languages or linguistics is a plus. 10-20 hours/week (more possible during the summer); $10-11+/hour; flexible weekday schedule. bilingual Chinese/English or
Arabic/English annotators are needed to help develop a database of
translated text. Tasks include reviewing Chinese or Arabic news
documents that have been translated into English, and identifying word
and sentence pairs that match between the two documents. This position requires a high degree of reading and writing fluency in both the target language -- Arabic or Mandarin Chinese -- and English. Chinese applicants must be comfortable reading and writing simplified Chinese. Qualified applicants will possess strong attention to detail, basic computer skills and an interest in languages or linguistics. 10-20 hours/week; $10/hour; flexible weekday hours.
